Folkfaces
Folkfaces is a New York State-based roots music quartet that plays an energetic mix of original and traditional music. Drawing deep inspiration from "weird old American music," their live performances serve as a traveling variety show and musical revue. The band masterfully explores a wide range of genres, including country blues, traditional jazz, rock and roll, honky tonk, western swing, bluegrass, old-time, and jug band music.
The music is driven by songwriter and frontman Tyler Westcott (vocals, guitar, banjo, harmonica, kazoo), who founded the band in 2011. While the rest of the group has taken many forms over the years, the current lineup features multi-instrumentalist and fiddler Brendan Gosson, upright bass player Patrick Jackson, and percussionist Dan Schwach on drum kit and washboard. Each member comes from a distinct musical background, finding common ground in the rare and captivating sound of the ensemble.
Folkfaces maintains a busy schedule, touring extensively and performing at colleges and major music festivals. They have shared the stage with many notable acts, including The Felice Brothers, Peter Rowan, Dustbowl Revival, Bruce Molsky, Tab Benoit, The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, JD Wilkes, Scott H. Biram, and Dom Flemons. Their festival appearances have placed them on lineups alongside artists such as Cage the Elephant, Mavis Staples, John Oates, Shakey Graves, Dr. Dog, Oteil Burbridge, Margo Price, The Wood Brothers, Gov't Mule, Andy Frasco & the U.N., and The Infamous Stringdusters, among others.
The band released their debut album, How Long?, in April 2017, followed by Fat Ol' Rat in 2019, and their third album, PLUMS, in 2023. Every fall, the group hosts Folkfaces Fest—an annual camping and roots music festival in Darien Center, NY, which is now approaching its 7th year!
